Still on the road

Am sitting in my eyrie at the guest house on Bainbridge Island, it's full dark now but only a couple of hours ago I could see the water from my window, glittering under the sunset sky. This is a really really pretty place. I might have to come back here on a more leisurely basis and explore further. Home tomorrow - early morning start, catch whatever ferry is handy, and then drive straight home once on the mainland shore. Time to get back - I've work to do...

The Field's End conference was pretty good, my presentation went smoothly and there were plenty of other interesting people around. Sold some books, made some good contacts, made friends with a bunch of nice new people I hadn't met before, good stuff all around. But I'm ready to go home now.

In other news, the pesky volcano in Iceland picked a FINE time to blow, torpedoing a long-awaited visit from an aunt who was due to fly in on Tuesday. This is looking less and less likely as time goes by. What will happen next, I really don't know. But - permit me - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. Yes, I know, it could be worse and for many it is, stranded hither and yon across the globe. But, nevertheless, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. Come *on* now. Your timing SUCKS, you impossible-to-pronounce-properly-Icelandic-monster. Really and truly it does.

Just, um, checking in. I'm going away to do a bit of quiet writing now, and then I'll hit the sack - and hopefully I'll have a chance to get an early start tomorrow.

See y'all on the other side...

Just LISTEN. Whatever the voice you might have expected, just looking at that bookwormish cherubic young face, it can't have been what you then hear…
