Jenny Diski gets fired as guest editor
Nutshell version: bunch of student writers from a handful of universities invited Jenny Diski to guest-edit their anthology, which they called "the premiere literary anthology of student writing". Ray Bradbury fights for a local library
He's one of the icons. One of the greats.
Bits from the article:
“Libraries raised me,” Mr. Bradbury said. “I don’t believe in colleges and universities. I believe in libraries because most students don’t have any money. When I graduated from high school, it was during the Depression and we had no money. I couldn’t go to college, so I went to the library three days a week for 10 years.”
He can still be found regularly at the Los Angeles Public Library branch in Koreatown, which he visited often as a teenager.
“The children ask me, ‘How can I live forever, too?’ ” he said. “I tell them do what you love and love what you do. That’s the story on my life.”
