The morning after

To John McCain: sir, nothing in your campaign became you as well as the leaving of it. That was a classy speech. It almost made me think I could LIKE you. Even after all the shit you pulled on the campaign trail in the run-up to this.

To Sarah Palin: Thank God you never set foot in the White House. I'm sure you'll be touted for it again, the Republican Party having become what it is, but at least this time we dodged the bullet.

To Barack Obama: I don't know whether to congratulate you or commiserate. You have a helluva mess on your hands to unravel. You had a good night, now let's see how the next four years go.

To California on Prop 8: Good GOD people. I might have expected it from Florida. But YOU? The hip cool enlightened state? What were you thinking?

To the people of the United States: okay, it's over. Now let's start on the rest of our lives and do something other than compulsively watch the polls and refresh FiveThirtyEight every five seconds.

I have a book I'm planning to write over the next couple of months. I have a life to reclaim.

Good morning, America. Back to work, now. ALL of us.
