Robert Jordan appears to have lost his battle with a rare blood disease.

I've seen some extraordinary tributes to him on the net in the past couple of hours. He might have redefined the meaning of "epic" in the term "epic fantasy", but bless him for this - he was the inspiration and the leading light for many a reader to take a first unsteady step into fantasy land. For that alone, he deserves remembrance - being a beacon for an entire genre of fandom is no small thing to achieve in a man's lifetime.

May you find that place where all stories are new again, Mr Jordan, and may you take joy in it. We who remain behind, in our various ways, will remember you.
