What to do when confronted with a book to sign...

George Bernard Shaw encountered this very dilemma. He once inscribed one of his books "To -----, with esteem." Years later he found the book in an antiquarian bookshop, whereupon he bought it and sent it back to his friend with the addendum, "To -----, with renewed esteem"!

Rest of story here, and boy do I feel for the author (I tend to stick to "Best Wishes", if I don't know the person I'm signing to, unless something specific (like Happy Birthday) is requested by the book's owner...)
