The stars are still out there

I direct you to John Scalzi's journal this morning - remember what date it is, remember what date it was 38 years ago today, look up at the moon and weep.

As someone put in the comments to the above post,

"I always knew that I would live to see the first man on the moon. I never dreamed that I'd live to see the last."
Jerry Pournelle

Wildlife report

Today is a red-letter day, I guess. I was out doing errands, and on my way home via the High Road, still wild and wooded along a lot of its length, when I came to a polite stop a prudent distance away from a critter crossing the road in a leisurely fashion. On the opposite side of the road, another car waited in similar wise.

We smiled at one another in wry recognition of the reasons behind our actions... as the skunk ambled across the road and slipped into the foliage on the other side.

Ladies and gentlemen, I haven't ever smelled skunk, and I'm told I really REALLY don't want to be in a situation where I am forced to - but I've never even SEEN a real live skunk, not ever, not before today.

I think I'll be a shade more careful working out in my garden from now on...
