It's HOT.

You happy now, aeriedraconia? *grin*

I sponged down my two cats yesterday afternoon with a wet cloth. They seemed in two minds about it. The long-hair definitely seemed to appreciate it, but not without a couple of wounded looks which eloquently said "NOW look what you've done to my fur!" and then had to lick himself "dry" over the next couple of hours. Poor beasties, with fur coats in the midst of this.

However, to put it in perspective... we have a week of this forecast, and then it's back to normal. And even a heatwave here doesn't go beyond 90F or so, and then it blessedly cools down at night anyway so even that is bearable. I can handle this.

Just don't make me go anywhere below the Mason-Dixon line between March and Christmas...

This and that

- I have a square of damp - and I mean literally a square of damp - onthe concrete floor of the workshop downstairs. The drywall isn't wet, not even the base; if they buried any water pipes into the solid concrete foundation and one of 'em chose to break RIGHT THERE then I don't even want to think about the consequences. My dad thinks it's something someone spilled, which might be a workable theory if there was anything in there that was spillable as such, or if anyone actually spent enough time in there to actually have a chance to actually SPILL something, if you know what I mean. So, it's a mystery.

- I keep on waiting for my authors' copies of the Spanish and Catalan editions of "Jin Shei", which have been promised as due "any day now" - instead, today, I received three copies of the paperback edition of the ITALIAN translation. And very handsome it looks too. I have a hutch on my desk in the office, with a pair of partitions with bevelled glass doors where now my books live - I'm rapidly running out of space. One of these days I'll take a pic of it and post it here. Just for fun.

- It's hot hot hot and it's going to stay hot for another week, so the forecasters tell us. And then, next Saturday night... look away, aeriedraconia... the minimum is supposed to drop to 44F. Here comes fall...

- And there's another damned mouse loose in this place. I go to sleep at night in mortal fear of waking to one of my beloved cats dropping a decapitated or, worse, live mouse into my bed as a present. Bleah.

- I thought another chapter was neatly snaffled up, but I thought of something different to replace a plot mcguffin I had in there, so I have to go back and fix that. New wordcount tomorrow. Promise.

In the meantime, I"m going upstairs to watch some mindless TV.
