Jin Shei Cover from sgreer

The second hand milestone...

So, after a morning coffee at The Black Drop Coffeehouse in downtown Bellingham with http://www.livejournal.com/users/jkling and http://www.livejournal.com/users/mareklamo, we all repaired to the local used book shrine, Henderson's Books, just down the street from the coffeeshop. Needless to say, money was spent [siiiiiiiigh].

However, I think I've crossed over a threshold, and I'm a little ambivalent about it. Y'see, there are copies of *my books* in there now. Just a copy each of "Hidden Queen" and "Changer of Days", and one copy of an early ARC edition of "Jin Shei" - nothing overwhelming, just, I don't know, a presence on the shelves. On the one hand, that means that there are enough copies out there that some will start turning up on the used book circuit; that does mean that I'm sitting there on the shelves next to well-thumbed copies of LLoyd Alexander, Asimov, Heinlein, C J Cherryh, Ursula Le Guin, even Robert Jordan (gack). On the other hand, someone brought them here instead of keeping 'em, and as a book packrat myself and speaking purely personally there are few books that I get rid of once I have them if I found anything at all to like about them. On the gripping hand, perhaps someone bought more than one copy...

Oh, I don't know. Perhaps it's just that it's so new to see my name on books shelved in bookstores catering for brand new books. Seeing my books in Henderson's makes me feel both proud and obscurely disappointed at the same time.

Does any of this make sense...?
