Goodbye to 2006

If I *have* to do one of those New Year In Review memes, then fionagh's version is the one I choose to emulate -

2006 - New Year's Meme

Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.

Did anyone close to you die?
No.

What was your favorite book in 2006?
I suppose I could think really really hard - but I spent so much of 2006 buried deep into my OWN book that I barely read anything for pleasure at all. If I come up with a winner at a later stage I will update this entry with it.

What was your favorite movie in 2006?
I really should have gotten around to watching Pirates of the Caribbean 2, but I slacked so I can't put it down as my favorite movie of 2006 yet. So, I'll have to say that my movie of 2006 was definitely The Philadelphia Story. Yes, the original, you didn't miss a remake or something.

What was your favorite song in 2006?
I don't remember being WILDLY enthusiastic about any of them this year - but then we went to the movies maybe three or four times, if that. It hardly seems worth choosing a "favourite".

What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory?
July 7. When HALF a problem was solved. We're still waiting for the other shoe to drop to complete the picture. Also, the entire second week of September, and my trip to Alaska.

What was the best thing you bought?
Define "best". I "bought" my experience in Alaska, I guess, and nothing compares to that. Or maybe I should choose something I bought IN Alaska, like Denali the chainsaw sculpture bear which is such a COOL thing to have.

Are you richer or poorer?
Poorer than at the same time last year, but not by that much - and infinitely richer in experience and life and dreams coming true.

Thinner or fatter?
About the same.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Other than the current pesky cold?... (can you tell it's annoying me?) Nothing major.

What kept you sane this past year?
My husband, my cats, my family.

***NOT IN THE ORIGINAL LIST BUT ADDED BY ME:
What drove you nuts this past year?
My husband, my cats, my family *grin*
***END INSERTION

Whose behavior merited celebration?
Unh. Pass.

Which personal accomplishment in 2006 are you most pleased with?
I wrote another novel, and then revised it to editorial fiat before deadline. I am pleased with it, I hope the editor will like what I'v done (she should get back to me on it early in the new year). I published another novel in the UK and the antipodes, and it has since sold into four of the ten foreign markets which had been conquered by "Jin Shei" And I don't know if it counts as "personal accomplishment" but one of those foreign markets - SPain - has been VERY good to me this year, and I am inordinately proud of having sold more than 30 000 copies of the *hardcover* in Spain in the space of less than six months...

Have you made resolutions for 2007? If so, what are they?
Yes. To make no resolutions.

Which bad habit are you most motivated to break?
I don't have any bad habits!!! (ANd I can stop checking my email every five seconds any time I want. Seriously, I can. Right after I go and check it again just now...)

Which bad habit do you expect to keep?
The Internet. And coffee, of course. I can't WRITE without coffee.

What are you most looking forward to in 2007?
Writing another good novel. Seeing the appearance of my first YA book in March. The trip to Japan in August.

Things you learned this year:
That there are still many things I don't know.

People you met:
I met a lot of people from LJ land this year. And they were lovely folks, one and all.

Things you don't want to take with you into 2007:
war (but it doesn't look like I'll be given a choice there)
indecision
fear and insecurity

Things you want to hold close as you pass into 2007:
My husband, my cats, my family
My sterling agent
my books, the ones written and the ones yet to come.

Things that were life changing in 2006:
Alaska

Things you hope to accomplish by the end of 2007:
Book 2 of the YA trilogy will be ready for publication in early 2008. Book 3 of the YA trilogy will be written and ready to submit to the editing process. A new project will have been sold and will be waiting in the wings.

What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
peace on earth - but I guess that's just asking too much...

IN 2007 I WANT TO . . .
SEE MORE OF: laughter, accomplishment, travel, photography, good reviews
SEE LESS OF: procrastination, being afraid, paranoia, senseless wars

PLEASE TAKE IT TO COMMENTS IF YOU CHOOSE TO - but what would YOU like to see more of on my blog in 2007...?
