The road RIGHT outside our driveway was slick ice when we started out, slush when we returned. Once you get past the bridge (also slickier than I like, I drove over it at maybe 5 miles an hour, so I'm a wuss, so shoot me) it's actually okay all the way into town. But we went out at noonish and came back after four, into a day already turning dark, and I was kind of still trembly when we got back after all that. We HAD to go out, I had stuff that I needed to mail, we had to get more birdseed (the REALLY cold days, when we couldn't help throwing more and more out for the poor frozen feathered and furred beggars who came knocking at our doors, cleaned us out...) and we went out to eat - but although the roads might be fine the parking lots are another story, they were ICKY with ftozen stuff and bumps and ice puddles and ice humps - one of them had speed bumps in the parking lot, which under the circumstances was the height of cold irony seeing as you couldn't tell what was the speed bump and what were just the generic ice humps that surrounded it...
We're home, and everything's fine, but YEESH.
Bring back those snow plows, ye powers that be. We needs them, yes we does, precioussss...
