The bike finally got here. In a snowstorm. Literally. Flakes, or flake clumps, the size of quarters were drifting down while they mandhandled the exercise bike down the outside stairs and in through the back door and into the room where it will live. The delivery guy was a cheery old geezer who imparted the information that he is out of sorts with Big COmpany From WHom Bike Was Purchased, and For Whom He Is THe Delivery Service Guy. Apparently the bike was STILL not put together when he came to call for it this morning in order to deliver it. I suppose they were then shamed into putting the thing together while the delivery van waited outside. I hope it wasn't all done in too much of a hurry and ill-fastened nuts and bolts don't start spraying across the room when the pedals are turned, or simply leaving you sitting there with a Wile E Coyote expression in the middle of a disintegrated pile of spare parts.
However, it's here, and we both tried it - I "pedalled" for 2 miles, and it wasn't too bad - and I think this might be just the thing for rdeck although he needs my assistance to properly get himself in and out of the beast, at least for the time being. But it's nice exercise, it's independent of the weather, and it's safe. So we shall see what comes of it from here on.
In other news, just started a book I"m reading for review purposes, "Temeraire" by Naomi Novik - I'd heard much good stuff about this particular book, and as it turns out we're on a panel together at Lunacon next week. SO it is with particular pleasure that I look forward to meeting this extraodrinary writer and telling her in person that she should shortly begin keeping an eye out for what is goign to be yet another glowing review.
